Obscure but fond reggae-rock lover Kim Mulligan's take on Rose Royce's 'Wishing On A Star' lands via Brooklyn's Flames label, a longstanding but still buzzing phono-fire factory with Winston Jones at the levers. Cut in Jamaica via New York's Phillip Smart's famed Long Island studio in the late 80s - which saw to the aggregation of Augustus Pablo and Lee Perry's infamies - it channels the Royce original with sharp touches from New York reggae vets Computer Paul and Danny Marshall. Though unintentional at the outset, the track always carried a dormant beachside probity, its later version (heard on the B) going in on hthe loon bird calls and jetting water for added atmos, earning this prized curio a latent place in many a Balearic DJ set.
