R2 Records has done the world - or at least cash-strapped DJs - a favour by reissuing the Power EP, which is arguably Karizma's most sought-after single. Copies of the original 1999 Black Market Records release have been changing hands for eye-watering sums of late, primarily because the tracks are so good that few are willing to part with their 12". The EP was co-produced by Karizma's old pal DJ Spen, and his distinctively swinging, Basement Boys drums can be heard on both "The Sea" and sublime A-side "The Power", which contains some of the most emotive piano solos ever committed to a house record. Also worth a listen is "K II S", which sounds like Karizma's take on the early broken beat/deep house fusions of Black Science Orchestra.
