Smallville's Paris correspondent Jacques Bon has been making waves with his yearning, often bittersweet take on deep house for some time. Even so, it's a surprise to see him join forces with Chicago deep house pioneers Virgo Four for this collaborative 12" on Mule Musiq. "Machine Love" is, predictably, utterly gorgeous, with waves of heart-aching electronics, dreamy pads and densely layered spoken word vocals working in unison with a rubbery, Chicago-style groove. The peerless original is accompanied by an instrumental version, plus a now rare flipside remix from Kompakt's Superpitcher. The latter's Extended Version is similarly blissful, whilst putting more emphasis on the vocals and a typically tech-tinged groove.
