Soul Jazz Records Presents Jackie Mittoo Reggae Magic CD

Toronto-born Jackie Mittoo shaped Jamaican music from his earliest days as the youngest Skatalites member. After their 1965 split, he led Studio One groups The Soul Brothers, Soul Vendors and Sound Dimension while crafting an organ-driven sound blending Kingston rhythms with Booker T, Stax and Motown influences. His solo work from 1967-74, including classics like 'Hot Milk' and 'Full Up', formed the backbone of ska, rocksteady and reggae's evolution. Mittoo's rhythms fueled the rise of dub, deejay and dancehall styles as artists like Dillinger and Sugar Minott built new songs on his tracks. This new collection Reggae Magic gathers hits and rarities from that fertile period, with instrumentals like 'Ghetto Organ' and The Soul Vendors' 'Tropic Island' highlighting his role as Studio One's keyboard king and architect of Jamaican sound.
