Like previous releases from the Reference camp, there's scant information to go on with regards to Jack Murphy who helms the label's third record. Previous releases on the label have swung between deep house and raw techno alike, and Murphy is obviously a producer who sits firmly in the latter camp; the A-side cut is a furious combination of stripped back drum machine kicks, snares and rimshots, with a dystopian Robert Hood-esque pads that cut a swathe through dubby chord slabs. On the flip, Murphy shows a more measured side to his production talents; "B1" bristles with distant percussive hits and scrapes sunk into the background as a chugging analogue bassline pushes the whole thing forward, while the broken rhythms of "B2" are joined by a motorik Motor City bassline. Murphy man be another anonymous techno in a veritable sea of them, but his music more that stands out.
