Ilario Liburni's Cardinal and Invade imprints are the go-to guys at the moment for the maximal sound; not quite minimal, certainly not tech house but somewhere in between with massively rolling and hypnotic grooves that put them toe to toe with other current purveyors like Memoria or Mulen People. On the Trip 1 compilation EP, some of the usual suspects are back. Label head honcho Liburni teams up with fellow homeboy Massimo Girardi (they're Belgian, by the way) on "Forensic", which starts out the track being dragged through brazen display before that big, bumpy baseline and tough beat set in nicely. Man of the moment Iuly B gets deep on "HS23" but it's still a pumping groove with a swing fuelled shuffle and woozy organ stabs. On the flip, Alejandro Vivanco gives us the funky and semi-glitchy "WeMaDi" which will really rock the after-hours and then Leeds' Jack Wickham with the rather Mulen sounding "Moonaker".
