In the late '90s and early noughties, the Idjut Boys and Laj (one of Raj Gupta's pre-Ray Mang production aliases) delivered a series of now legendary dub disco and deep house productions, mostly on the former's U-Star label. "Slateo" has long been considered one of their greatest musical moments, despite its only previous appearance being on a CD-only Session Recordings compilation in 2002. Here it finally gets a vinyl release courtesy of Claremont 56, fittingly on brightly coloured, single-sided wax. The track itself sits somewhere between warm-up gold, late night bliss and early morning celebration, with the Idjuts and Laj wrapping undulating bongo beats, toasty dub bass, heady guitar flourishes and spacey jazz-funk synth solos in copious amounts of reverb and dub delay.
