|1.||"Cryptoporticus" (Cloudy mix)|
Nicholas Chaix has been rather quite of late - on a solo tip, at least - with his 2014 output consisting of a single 12" of rhythm tracks (the heavy Cubo Rhythm Tracks release). This, then, is a welcome return. In its' original form, "Cryptoporticus" is fiendishly creepy, coming on like a slow-motion jog around an abandoned industrial complex in Sheffield with just ghosts for company (an effect heightened by Chaix's use of early Warp style bleeps and Rob Gordon-ish sub-bass). For imaginative DJs, he's also included a delightfully freaky "bleepapella". On the flip, he offers up something for the Love From Outer Space crowd - the new wave influenced gothic deep house swing of "Hovercraft".
