Originally released way back in 1974, Hugo Montenegro's Hugo In Wonder-land album has long been seen as a quirky and colourful delight. Original copies are hard to find these days, and with good reason. The set, which has finally been given the reissue treatment in honour of Record Store Day 2020, sees the American bandleader and Latin-fired easy listening specialist offer-up eccentric cover versions of tracks from the Stevie Wonder songbook. It includes some terrifically cheery and colourful covers, including a surprisingly synth-laden take on 'Living in the City', a low-slung, Blaxploitation influenced re-imagining of 'Superstition', and a suitably intergalactic, other-worldly version of 'Higher Ground' that sports more deep space Moog sounds than your average obscure library music set.
