Largely known for writing some of the biggest and influential Motown hits, the Holland brothers and Lamont Dozier were just as canny at laying down their own gems as they were for the many acts who benefited from their writing (The Supremes, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and stacks more) "Why Can't We Be Lovers" (known most famously for its Chain Reaction cover) is a powerful love song with full orchestration and a massive backing vocal presence while "Don't Leave Me" struts with a much more bare-boned dynamic where Dozier's dulcets, striking piano and emphatic backing vocals do all the driving. This one won't be leaving your side for a long time...
