Review

Roman hypnotic techno don Giorgio Gigli delivers his first full length in his twelve year long career as a producer and some of his first individual works since splitting with long time studio partner and Zooloft co-label boss Obtane. It's a mainly downbeat affair on offer here, but it's the perfect pace for Gigli's sense of atmospherics and induction of trance states, which he's always done so well. The post-apocalyptic drone of opening track "Last Frame Of Myself" sets the scene rather well for futuristic slow burners like "Surrounded" and "Nocturne". But there's potential dancefloor dynamics on "Eve Of Destruction" or "Shades Of Depth" both tracks featuring slow but tough broken beats, accompanying the winds of war and the rise of the machines. Gigli's ear for sound design here is impeccable and it's one of the best imaginary sci-fi soundtracks we've heard in a while.
