Given the staggering depth, size and diversity of Gilles Peterson's record collection, it's perhaps unsurprising that he's become a go-to man for those wanting a fresh collection of little-known gems. This Japan-only outing sees him mining the collection section labeled "jazz". As you'd expect, there's plenty of variety within that, from the shuffling sax wig-out of Rudolph Johnson's "The Highest Pleasure" and next-level piano business of Walter Bishop Jnr's 4th Cycle (try saying that out loud after a few too many glasses of Saki), to the uplifting soulfulness of Doug Carn's "Higher Ground" and Cleaveland Eaton's impeccable, string-laden jazz-funk.
