Tel Aviv trio Garden City Movement has spent the last five years impressing at the margins, periodically releasing singles that have tickled the fancy of some well-regarded tastemakers. Now they're finally ready to release their debut album, Apollonia, a collection that has the makings of a breakthrough set. At the core of their sound is a love of woozy, otherworldly dream pop - think blissed-out vocals, drowsy synthesizer chords, sampled beats and glistening guitars - yet their take on the decades-old genre is undoubtedly their own. Across the album's 18 tracks you'll find nods towards shuffling indie-dance, traditional Middle Eastern musical forms, jazz, ambient, indie-rock and the skewed, chopped-up beats associated with Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder label, with the band's inherent dreaminess providing a constant thread throughout.
