Ten-piece Fulaso specializes in "funky Latin soul", a catch all term that allows them to slip between South American and Afro-Cuban styles at will. For this first outing on vinyl, they've decided to serve up some salsa-soul fusion. A-side "La Rumba" is particularly wonderful, with mazy trumpet and saxophone solos wrapping themselves around strong female vocals, a hip-wiggling rhythm and plenty of layered percussion hits. It's sweet and summery, as you'd perhaps expect, and should find favour with the likes of Snowboy and Gilles Peterson. Flipside "My Little Baby" sees the combo move further towards traditional Cuban territory via a stronger horn section, Tuto Puente style drums and breezy English vocals.
