Review

Berlin's Anthea first came through back in the late '00s, offering a deep and silky strain of tech-minded house that bridged the gap between house and techno. Over the years, she's crafted a very particular sound, one which she has mentored other rising producers with, and the fruits of her labour can now be heard through her excellent Partisan imprint. Newcomer Fern is the latest young gun-slinger to make it on this catalogue, coming through with the three-tiered Paradox EP. "Prejudice" opens the A-side with a bouncy, intricately assembled house nugget swamped in starry melodic patterns, whereas "Sunday" unleashes a much more beat-driven bullet of a groove for the minimal headz. "Bisous" engulfs the whole of the B-side in rickety, off-kilter percussion swings and bumpy kick drum patterns, tying this EP up in what will hopefully be a a sound that we'll hear more of in the coming months.
