Mercurial and troubled singer-songwriter Gavin Clark passed away last February at the age of 46, leaving a body of work elevated by his enchanting voice and talent for dark and reflective songwriting alike. In some cases pieced together from demos recorded before his departure, this collection of songs centres around a project he had been working on with collaborator Pablo Clements, who he met when working with UNKLE, and centres around his semi-autobiographical vision of a troubadour in the form of a corrupt preacher. Partly heard on the soundtrack of the recent This Is England '90, the results are both a raw and emotionally affecting treatise on both imperiousness and vulnerability, testimony to a talent whose light shines beyond his departure.
