Gerard "Convextion" Hanson has long been one of the electro scene's most notable talents; arguably, he's barely put a foot wrong since delivering his debut EP way back in the mid '90s. Here, he dons the E.R.P alias he last used back in 2013 for the second volume of Solar One Music's Hubble-themed 12" releases. Predictably, Ancient Light is superb, with the title track delivering the perfect balance between dreamy, deep space ambience, classic IDM, and the snappy, beatbox pulse of classic electro. The accompanying Exaltics remix of the same track flips the script, taking the track in a darker direction via thrusting synthesizer arpeggios and metallic percussion. Elsewhere, "Gleaning Creation" doffs a cap to the underwater mysticism of Drexciya whilst retaining the melodiousness of B-12, while "Eagle Nebula" is intergalactic electro at its' finest.
