Phantasy Sound chief Erol Alkan returns with his latest offering, and although he is indeed a multifaceted producer who could never be pinned to one sound, it is quite unlike anything we have heard from him before. 'Automatic' is a loopy and hypnotic DJ tool that works in some finely filtered disco motifs on the techno tip, reminiscent of Dave Clarke's Red series or even Floorplan. On the flip, there's Palm Trax's discofied and soulful techno funk revision, followed by Samuel Eastgate of Late Of The Pier's new alias as LA Priest - who serves up an oddball and off-kilter redux of the track.
