There's been plenty of speculation about the identity of the "mystery producer" behind the Eqwel project, which has been responsible for a string of inspired techno workouts on Joaquin "Joe" Clausell's Sacred Rhythm and Atypical Dopeness imprints. We have a few ideas about who it could be, and there are certainly clues hidden within the densely layered rhythm tracks, guttural analogue electronics and fuzzy, lo-fi textures that dominate the producer's latest EP. Check, in particular, the pleasingly rubbery "Ballistic Groove", an electro-fired broken techno workout rich in computer bleeps and metallic percussion hits, and the ten-ton intensity of dark tribal techno slammer "Swarming Data", which stacks up African-influenced drums over end-of-days chords and sturdy, locked-in kick-drums.
