Anyone who indulged in the debut Magic Wire missive from Lone will know Matt Cutler has forgone the downtempo boogie that characterised early releases for Dealmaker and Werk. In its place "Pineapple Crush" and "Angel Brain" delivered instant dancefloor gratification, updating nascent rave and hardcore sounds for the contemporary music addict. Lone expands on this glossy update of found sounds brilliantly with the eight tracks that make up Emerald Fantasy Tracks. "Cloud 909" sets the tone for what unfolds in a nutshell as resplendent neon blushed key stabs intertwine with brilliantly psychotic syncopation. The most remarkable aspect however is Lone's seemingly endless capacity to conjure up brand new retro melodies rich in texture and sumptuous detail. From the primal house throb of "Moon Beam Harp" and the demented rave stabbery of "Reschooling" to the Eastern tinge that runs through the less frenetic "Rissotowe 4", Lone has delivered a master class in future retro sounds that demands repeat play.
