Veteran percussionist and trumpeter Edmony Krater is probably best known for his 1998 debut album, Tijan Pou Velo, a sought-after fusion set that was reissued by Heavenly Sweetness in 2016. The positive response that that reissue seems to have done Krater the world of good, because he's now recorded his first full-length for 30 years. Combining his jazz-funk and fusion-influenced grooves of old with African and Cuban sounds, An Ka Sonje is a delightfully positive and attractive set simply dripping with quality musicianship. Krater's French language vocals are an ear-pleasing constant, while his occasional use of vintage synthesizers and Tony Allen style drums only ehances the listening experience.
