Originally recorded in Detroit in 1974 and released later the same year, Pittsburgh-born jazzman Eddie Russ's first album with all-star local jazz band The Mixed Bag has always been well-loved by jazz dance collectors. It was re-released by the (then) nascent Soul Jazz imprint way back in 1992, and here gets a 20th anniversary "re-re-issue". Fresh Out is one of those albums that's well worth revisiting - a groovy combination of loose, live playing, tight back end and Russ's delicious keys. It's been remastered, too, for a sparkling sound, and the CD comes packaged in Japanese-style hardboard card. Quality stuff as you'd expect from the Soul Jazz label.
