Being presented with a new label sporting a new artist is one of life's pleasures, at least for us here at Juno! Little is known about either the Sferic imprint or the producer going by the name of Echium, but we can already envisage a bright and prosperous future for both parties. It wound not be fair to tag Synthetic Space as a drone of ambient album because this music goes much further than those domains, often hinting at more dance-centric movements. What is certain, however, is Echium's accomplished sound design skills, where a familiar sort of grey-scaled pulse runs deep through each one of these experiments. We like to think of it as dub techno wound down to downtempo levels, making it the perfect sort of formula for any party that continues in the following day's afternoon. Put it this way, if Villalobos were doing a Balearic set on a sunny Berlin afternoon, he would sound a little like this. At the same time, this is the sort of gear for the true dub heads out there, and you will no doubt find continuous pleasure from listening to its dark and mysterious corners. Tip!
