Our soul saloon doors are swinging this week, as we accept a heavy influx of new artists replicating classic '70s sounds, as well as the works of classic artists being reissued. Earl Jr. White is one such artist. Unfortunately, this 7" reissue by Federal Green (originally an extremely rare '45 from '77) is a bittersweet symphony for heartbreak. Getting his hopes up on the optimistic A, and with echoes of clacking funk, it's an emotional ode to his girl. But he suffers a loss on the B, crashing down to reality on a triplet-swaying string dirge, pondering his recent dumpee status. Speak for yourself, Earl, we're certainly in love with your music!
