German producer Dwig has been relatively quiet since impressing with his 2013 debut album, Forget The Pink Elephant, for the Giegling label. That set was impeccably blazed, offering a sofa-friendly blend of immersive deep house, jazzy trip-hop beats and hazy downtempo grooves. This surprise sophomore set, landing with little fanfare through his own new label Dwig, explores similar territory. Therefore MPC style production is central as Dwig lays down jazz-inclined dancefloor shufflers (see, in particular, "Gentle Melodies" and "Little Boy"), blunted, Madlib style beat science ("Morning Break") and, most surprisingly, ultra-deep two-step garage ("Lost Telegram"). It's one of those sets that may, sadly, fall between the cracks, but it deserves to be a wholehearted success.
