Glen White is undoubtedly most famous for being the vocalist in legendary Italo-disco outfit Kano, though over the last 40 years he's released a high volume of singles under his given name. His most sought-after solo release, though, is one he put out as Mr Togo way back in 1982: 'Be Free'. Here it gets a much-needed, single-sided reissue. While the track was recorded and produced in Italy, by Italian producers, it sounds American, offering a fine mixture of two-step soul, disco, jazz-funk and Intrigue style boogie. White's vocals are superb, but it's the music - think shuffling drums, rubbery slap-bass, colourful synth sounds, razor-sharp guitar licks and deliciously percussive, drum-heavy breakdowns - that makes a bigger impact. Simply essential.
