Unlike the albums for the aforementioned labels, Shape Shifting Shaman finds DMX Krew working without the constraints of concept and is no less impressive for it. Indeed there's a breezy confidence to the nine tracks here that nudges the album towards a place amongst Upton's best work of a long and richly rewarding career.
