It's taken them a while - 13 years in fact - but Agogo's hip-hop and soul-fired Resense offshoot has finally reached half a century of releases. As you'd expect, they've pulled out all the stops for 45 number 50, offering up a couple of confirmed floor-slayers. French DJ/producer (and label regular) Djar One handles side A, brilliantly reworking and tooling up a fiery chunk of Latin boogaloo/calypso fusion with the aid of some deliciously up-tempo, club-rocking breakbeats ('Smart Cakypso'). Over on the flip, San Francisco's King Most reaches for the delay and reverb on a tough, head-nodding and toe-tapping re-edit of Sam & Dave classic 'Hold On, I'm Coming'. They say you should never tamper with the classics, but King Most's take on this particular anthem is a genuinely brilliant alternative take.
