Gone are the standard tempos and basslines that defined the genre, replaced by alien synths, grooves that will resist integration with the rest of the electronic milieu, and a wealth of socially and politically motivated speeches. It's an album of beguiling genius, yet still expressed with the tools that place it in the heart of the Motor City legacy.
