Darand Land's Urban Imagery label surfaced last year with a 12" from the producer himself that fully justified the fledgling operation's aim to reflect "the struggles and emotions of the inner city through music". For the second release, Urban Imagery has scored what people might call a real coup, coaxing Deterministic Finite Automata out of a production silence that has lasted some 14 years. Back in 2001, the producer debuted with Microstructural Characterization, a 12" for Surveillance as DFA then pretty much disappeared (maybe to not fall foul to false association with the famed NYC label of the same name?) Regardless it's great to see Deterministic Finite Automata back with four cuts of deep, introspective machine funk that house DJs will find plenty of joy from.
