Bay area microhouse legend and human beatbox Dave Aju is back with more cheeky digital shenanigans on the 10101 EP for Parisian pranksters Circus Company. A bit of a change from the Aju you'd know of several years ago; we were pleasantly surprised upon listening to the powerful opener "Low Dive" a Rene Pawlovitz style warehouse techno stomper, which nails the aesthetic right down to the factory floor rhythms to the evocative melodies.. plus some woozy delay drenched vocals! "Always Never" is a mellow, experimental electro cut that utilises the producer's trademark micro sampling and use of the stereo spectrum just wonderfully. On the flip, Aju dabbles once again in some sleazy lo-slung soul biz, on the deep down and dirty "Tell Her Why" awash in stoner crooning, psyched out harpsichords/bell tones and dope breaks.
