|2.||"Doug's Prelude" (4:46)|
When you consider the stellar cast of A-list jazz players involved in its creation, it's perhaps not that surprising that original vinyl copies of this 1972 post-bop classic are surprisingly hard to come by. During the recording sessions, saxophonist Clifford Jordan was accompanied by, amongst others, Roy Haynes, Kenny Durham, Wynton Kelly and Don Cherry. As this timely reissue proves, all were in fine form throughout, with each musician being given a chance to shine across the four stretched-out tracks. We're particularly enjoying the laidback shuffle of opener "Vienna" and the bustling, hard-wired closing cut, "872" (the stereo separation in the mix is particularly impressive), but the whole set is pretty darn faultless.
