Claudio Burnier and Octavia Cartier's eponymous 1974 debut album has long been one of Brazilian music's most sought-after LPs. While it helps that it has notably been sampled a few times - for cuts by such disparate artists as Andres, Kenny Dixon Jr and Janet Jackson - the album's greatest calling card is the quality of its hazy, sun-kissed musical fusion. Taking samba and MPB as a foundation, the album's 12 breezy tracks variously touch on jazz-funk, disco, boogie and Steely Dan style West Coast jazz-rock. The result is a string of memorable highlights, including the dreamy samba-disco of "Lembrando Ed Kleiger", the "Peg"-goes-to-Rio flex of "Ai E Que Ta" and the folksy, string-drenched bliss of sublime closer "Marcante".
