Review

Funkineven's Apron label has risen to extraordinary heights in the last couple of years, releasing a myriad of new exciting talent such as Greg Beato and Brassfoot, of course. The later returns to the London-based imprint after his debut alongside Lord Tusk last year, this time with a solo four-track of warm, tape-saturated house music. "Quad By Quad" is a hissing MPC beat jam, while Serpentina's Lust" is an aggressive floor stomper featuring a rather mouth-watering set of drums and percussion. On the B-side, "Dogenzaka (No Love, Nuff Lube)" might well be the jewel of the lot, where a futuristic, pseudo-acid bassline rolls its way through old-school melodies. Furthermore "Senza Nome" heads into total abstraction thanks to its cinematic synths and squeals. What a corker, this is warmly recommended.
