Chicago veteran Boo Williams doesn't release anywhere near as many records as he once did, though the EPs he does put out are rarely less than brilliant. Predictably he's hit the mark again on the "Night Heat EP", his first audio missive of 2020. Opener "Saving Time" is especially gorgeous, with Williams channelling the spirit of Ron Trent on a rich, colourful and bouncy affair built around a rubbery bassline, spacey pads, summery melodies and an Afro-house tinged groove. He opts for a chunkier, more bass-heavy sound on hypnotic peak-time number "Night Heat 101", before opening side B with the retro-futurist electronic house hustle of "Digital Krash". Arguably best of all though is wayward closer "Acid Teknic", where wild TB-303 lines ride a booming bassline and snappy Chi-town drums.
