This is one of those records that shouldn't work, but is actually irrepressibly good. It features two fantastic tweaks of a little known - and incredibly silly - 1989 cover of "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" by short-lived Dutch combo Bless This Mess. The original is pretty bonkers - think tropical synth-pop meets humid Balearica meets trippy acid house - so A-side editor A Good Christian has done a fine job of turning it into guaranteed dancefloor gold. If anything, Young Marco's flipside Dub version, a pulsating 6am wig-out that utilizes just one vocal phrase ("daylight come and we want to go home", of course) is, if anything, even better. A quirky delight, all told.
