Couple In A Hole (Soundtrack) CD

Tom Geens' second movie, Couple In A Hole, has been getting rave reviews of late, with critics praising its' bleak storyline (it involves a grieving couple living in a hole under a tree in the Pyrenees) and woozy, similarly dystopian soundtrack. The music was written, performed and produced by Beak, a Bristol three-piece formed by Portishead's Geoff Barrow seven years ago. Here, that soundtrack - loose, lo-fi, creepy, eccentric and naturally evocative - gets a CD release. There's much to admire throughout, even if you've not seen the film, from the droning synthesizer creepiness of "Remember" and discordant woodwind instrumentation of "Flax Bourton" (which is much moodier than the West Country village it's named after), to the post-punk, apocalyptic surf-rock of "PIJ".
