Express Yourself vinyl

It would be fair to say that 'Express Yourself' is the strongest release from Basement Jaxx in years, in part because it channels the freewheeling, bass-heavy, UK-meets-US spirit of their earliest releases on Atlantic Jaxx Recordings. The EP-leading title track is particularly potent: all warped, wobbling UK garage bass, bumpin' house beats, thrusting noises and a rave-igniting lead vocal. There's plenty to enjoy elsewhere across the EP too, from the spoken-word-poetry, whistling melodies and sparkling pianos of 'One More Chance (Sunlight Mix)', to the insatiable party-house flex of 'Laughing Matter (12 Mix)' (whose bassline seems to be a cut-up and rearranged lift from a very well-known disco classic, and the stabs recall the pair's fantastic 'Fly Life'), and the squelchy boogie-house hedonism of 'Just Want Some Harmony (3AM Mix)'.
