2011's BART: Bay Area Retrograde Volume 1 LP was one of the albums that put San Francisco's Dark Entries label on the map. Like this year's second volume, it featured a sublime mix of lost, forgotten and previously unreleased gems from San Francisco's little-known early '80s underground new wave, post-punk and synth-pop scenes. Here, both volumes in the series make it onto CD for the first time, having previously been available only on vinyl. Naturally, there are plenty of highlights to enjoy, from the Residents style throb of Standard 0f Living's "NFA" and the magnificently stylish synth-pop of Quiet Room, to the maudlin coldwave of Tuxedomoon and riotous EBM pulse of Human Being Men's "Human Dub".
