Francis Harris, who appears here as Aris Kindt alongside newcomer Gabe Hendrick, has been at the forefront of the NYC house and techno scene since the early 2000s, and his Scissor and Thread label has always catered to those looking for a bit of oddity and magic in their dance music; not to mention an abstract and minimal edge. The duo's Aris Kindt project does precisely that, and even though the beats are largely sparse and subdued by the mounds of ambient circling above it, Aris Kindt's mood is still powered by movement. "Blue Sky Shoes", for instance, powers through thanks to a rich plethora of drones and distortion, but its beats are clearly audible amid the sonic storm, and the same goes for the likes of "Snowbird" or "Every New Thing". This is grey-scaled house music with a bittersweet tone. Lovely and powerful.
