For those left tired and uninspired by the monotonous, software-based minimal music that was drenching the electronic scene up until a few years back, 2010 marked a new approach to creating dance music, not only in terms of style but also in sound aesthetic. The Appointment label has been at the forefront of this revolution, giving back to house and techno what had been missing since the early 2000s - a superior sound quality, a hands-on approach and, most importantly, a refusal to allow formulas dictate how music should be created and released. "Reunion" kicks off with a thumping four to the floor kick drum and a twisted, skipping construction of hi-hats which rapidly moulds into a ravenous beat filled with squelching basslines and euphoric synth stabs. The second track picks up in a similar fashion but with the addition of a luring voice sample that keeps on building until you are left with an amalgamation of harsh beats and punchy acid trickles. On the B-Side, the acidic basslines are swept aside by swooping industrial sounds that are carried through to the final track, only to be left with a haunting, repetitive female voice which neatly ties together these four dance floor burners. Highly recommended.
