Long-serving techno producer Alan Fitzpatrick isn't messing around on his fourth single of 2021, which also happens to be the second volume in the Special Selects Series of club-focused 12" single. Fitzpatrick is in full on nostalgia mode on opener 'They All Call 'Em Garys', a giddy throwback to the early '90s that adds hammered-out, rave style piano riffs to a stomping and jacking techno groove. 'Colour of a Dream' also pumps hard and sounds a little like the kind of fare he used to release on Drumcode a decade ago, while 'Friday Night Dancing' comes on like a 21st century re-imagining of Beltram's 'Energy Flash' with added Lee 'Scratch' Perry vocal samples. Finally, 'Magnetic Dog' is a sleazy, driving number smothered in ride cymbals, foreboding bass and angular electronic motifs.
