Formerly known for her work as Kate Wax on Border Community and Mental Groove, Aisha Devi's decision to work under her own name with the establishment of the Danse Noire label has paid multiple dividends. Following that excellent release from El Mahdy Jr, Devi returns with her second Danse Noire offering that builds on her malevolent vision of bass music as played out by a hard techno demon. "Hakken Dub" works off some brutal, bloated kick blasts and a pitch black atmosphere in which to fire off controlled spits of delay and reverb, the echoes creating a skank in the rhythm when it isn't being decimated by a rugged breakdown interruption. "Throat Dub (Tool)" meanwhile is a daring offering that will get creative DJs in a lather, as some unanchored monolithic throat singing stretches over nine minutes with subtle shifts in tone and timbre. IVVVO takes "Hakken Dub" into a typically leftfield hardware house headspace, and then Hieroglyphic Being brings some troublesome treatment to bear on "Throat Dub" with a jagged attitude and some dishevelled electro somewhere in the mix.
