It would be fair to say that this latest release from Spain's long running Semantica imprint takes no prisoners. Acroonym's title track, in particular, is the kind of industrial-flecked, mind-altering techno that doesn't so much overwhelm you, as beat you into submission. While similarly trippy and hypnotic closer "Mimers Brunn" is similarly minded, Acronym at least offers a little respite in between. So, "Jotunheim" is a deep, clandestine techno bubbler complete with spooky chords, electro-influenced percussion and sparse melodies, while "Nifelheim" expertly pairs drawn-out, one-note chords with dense, rolling rhythms. Strangely, it's actually kind of dreamy, albeit in a slightly inebriated way.
