Fever vinyl

The third album from Dutchman Dave Huismans under his 2562 pseudonym is a musical tour de force from start to finish. Ostensibly a record made from the disco records a young Huismans listened to - the front artwork is a beautiful illustration of this - but were this fact not publicised when the album was announced no-one would have picked it. The overwhelming sonic aesthetic of Fever instead inhabits the murky world between techno and dubstep. The stuttering rhythm of "Winamp Melodrama" is coupled with the tough drum hits, whirring effects and neatly muffled vocal loops of "Cheaters" on the first slab of vinyl, by which stage it's already apparent this album is going to be something a little bit special. Elsewhere the gloopy bass and odd yelps of "Wasteland" and strangely evocative shuffle of the album's title track are among Fever's other high points. It's fascinating to chart the progress Huismans since his 2009 album Unbalance, and, before that, Aerial.
