Review: Apparently inspired by a request for a reissue of their first 'greatest hits' comp Discography on vinyl, Smash is a career-spanning retrospective that rounds up all of the Pet Shop Boys singles to date - and there have been rather a lot over the years - in freshly remastered form. Naturally, it's a beautifully presented box set, featuring six slabs of wax (each in bespoke inner sleeves) and a booklet containing track-by-track liner notes by the iconic duo and journalist pal Chris Heath. It contains some of the greatest pop music made over the last four decades, with familiar hits being joined by fan favourites and occasionally overlooked later cuts. Basically, if you love the Pet Shop Boys you need this in your life.

There are some monster hits in this four-vinyl set including Whitney Houston's 'Love Will Save The Day', Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' and Dead or Alive's 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)', all presented in their finest extended mix forms. Review: Ionnalee's 2018 debut album "Everyone Afraid To Be Forgotten" was superb, so hopes are high for the artist's similarly minded sequel. "Remember The Future" is a little bolder, shinier and more upbeat than its predecessor, though stylistically it still sounds like a 21st century update of Kate Bush's distinctive early '80s sound circa "The Dreaming" and "Hounds of Love". It's a dreamy, ethereal and otherworldly take on electronic pop that's always alluring and often memorable. The album's plentiful highlights include "Some Body", the superb Zola Jesus collaboration "Matters" - a deep, bubbly and intoxicating affair - and "Mysteries Of Love", an echoing, Royksopp-produced cover of a song from David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti's "Blue Velvet" movie soundtrack.

Review: Legendary American singer Barbra Streisand has an almost endless list of accolades and almost as many great records. Live At The Bon Soir is one that has never been officially released before and now in celebration of its 50th anniversary, it gets one on nice heavyweight vinyl and four sides. It was recorded when Barbra was just 20 years old and had recently signed a deal with Columbia Records. She performed it at the Greenwich Village night club and the songs she chose actually got recorded again in the studio and gave rise to The Barbra Streisand Album.

Review: It would be easy to think of Whitney as the first album from one of R&B's all-time greatest icons, but in fact Whitney Houston released a self-titled album just two years earlier in 1985. Either way, it was with this light beam of pop perfection that Houston truly cemented her reputation as a global superstar, and it's not hard to understand why. The hits just spill out of this record, from 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) and 'Love Will Save The Day' to 'So Emotional' and 'For The Love Of You'. The songwriting is stellar, but of course it's Houston's impassioned, full-bodied vocal which makes these the perennial hits they are - it's an all-time classic, need we say more?

Review: As the third installment brings attention back on this crucial series, Light In The Attic are running a repress of their second voyage into the plentiful realm of Japanese city pop - another extended cruise through impossibly slick '70s and '80s groovers with that golden studio sound. There's sultry slinkers like Eiichi Ohtaki and sensual funk from Kimiko Kasai on "Vibration (Love Celebration)". Watch out for the heavy bass and subtle synth inflections of Yu Imai's incredible "Kindaichi Kosuke Nishi E Iku" and the impossibly catchy whistlealong 'Hot Sand' by Piper. It's not a competition, but if you crave that US AOR sound, it might just be that the Japanese did it better.

Review: Hunting High and Low, the 1985 debut album from A-ha, gets a reissue as a 6LP vinyl box set. Responsible for changing synthpop forever with their breakout 'Take On Me', the single's parent album here has been reissued numerous times, but this one aims to be the curtain call. With a whopping 64-page booklet detailing the band's origins thrown in on top of a mammoth four LPs, three of which contain a huge swath of unheard demos, B-sides and rarities, this is a cash-in on a much-beloved pop band we're sure will be eaten up.

This vast box set, which includes six weighty slabs of vinyl and an informative insert, celebrates his legacy, offering up a mixture of pioneering productions (Afrika Bambaata and Soulsonic Force's 'Planet Rock', 'Walking On Sunshine' by Rockers Revenge, 'Confusion' by New Order), dancefloor anthems (Freez's 'I.O.U', his enormous rework of Fleetwood Mac's 'Big Love') and a string of essential but lesser-celebrated revisions - all presented in full-length, DJ-friendly form. In a word: essential.
