Review: "The wait is over as we finally have a new release ready by one of the originators of Icelandic techno. It's been a while, but worth the wait - as he delivers a straight-shooter, destined to find place in the record bags of all serious djs for years to come.
The EP consists of four dub-influenced techno tracks - each one exploring the depths of sonic and emotional landscapes. Some might even say glacial and atmospheric, yet perfect for a late night spin at the clubs.
Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musicians.

Review: More ethereal deep house from a talented Cologne based producer. Thyladomid (real name Charles Thiemann) presents his second full length following up 2015's Interstellar Destiny on Diynamic. It features some lush selections indeed: from the hypnotic bell melody of opener "A Little Church In Amsterdam" which you could imagine Lee Burridge playing at a Los Angeles rooftop party, through to the bittersweet and pop-inflected melancholia of "Blossoming Limburg" featuring some magnificent vocals by Mahfoud. You really get to hear how much diversity there is this talented young producer's sonic repertoire from here. Take "Kollwitzplatz" for instance, which merges charming neoclassical elements with trippy minimal techno aesthetics, or the bittersweet symphony on the ecstatic closer "Underwater Rhapsody". Keep your eyes on Thyladomid moving forward in 2018.

Review: More underground goodies from Italian label Illegal Series, following up killer tunes by debutantes Sergej Nicolaj, E.s.c. Soundwork and Serious Stella previously. Old school influenced electro/techno on the all analogue/lo-fi tip here, by the mysterious TNE Boo One Koze. Plenty of dusted down blip/blurp/bleep sounds, with more reductionist mini-funk than you could shake an S-Max record at! This will appeal to similarly retroverted sounds emanating from Berlin's Italian community of DJs and producers, as heard on labels like Libertine and Slow Life.

Botanic Minds Sunset Series (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BMSS 003. Rel: 30 Apr 18
  1. Track001A (7:42)
  2. Track002A (7:39)
  3. Track001B (9:00)
  4. Track002B (7:25)
Review: Botanic Minds have quietly built a vibe that is all their own with a series of 12"s from lesser known artists on the fringes of the minimal scene. There's something different at work in these tracks, not least on the limber opening jam that kicks off this uncredited fourth release on the label. "Track002A" has a more familiar house shuffle, but there's still an intriguing atmosphere submerged in the micro samples lingering in between the beats. On the second side, things get super minimal on "Track001B," pushing the dancefloor dynamics to the back and focusing on strange shards of sound instead. "Track002B" finishes the EP off on a lopsided, funky tip with another lysergic soundscape hovering in the middle distance.

  2. Track002A (Lizz remix)
  3. Track001B
  4. Track002B (Barut remix)
Review: The latest transmission from Botanic Minds comes courtesy of an unnamed producer, although whoever they are they clearly understand the innate minimal funk of the label. "Track001A" shuffles with the kind of subdued seduction that Botanic Minds has made its name on thus far, while "Track001B" follows suit with another surefire bomb for the late night / early morning rollers who want their groove to last forever. Rising producer Lizz brings a different kind of energy with the remix of "Track002A," injecting some warm melodic instrumentation samples into the mix to create a positively sunny atmosphere. Barut makes a first appearance on a remix of "Track002B," again flipping the script with a throbbing acid approach that contrast smoothly with the sleek minimalisms of the original tracks.

Review: Australian duo Yolanda Be Cool are back. The outfit behind the worldwide smash hit "We No Speak Americano" with DCUP in 2010 hail from Sydney, and are comprised of Sylvester Martinez and Johnson Peterson. They are back on local label Sweat It Out, an imprint that they have been stalwarts of for the last decade, in addition to releases for Dim Mak and Nurvous. "Musika" is a melodic and emotive deep house jam on an Afro and 'techy' tip - which will appeal to fans of the Innervisions sound. There are some great remixes too: Babert (Disco Revenge) delivers a very retro Italo house rendition, while Los Angeles based DJ Dateless goes for a classic '90s house perspective that dives deep.

  1. Space (5:53)
  2. Virgin Virgin (6:51)
  3. Space (Maayan Nidam remix) (5:38)
  4. Berlin 6 (8:17)
Review: Over the last four years, Toulouse twosome Zendid have maintained a steady release schedule, dropping highly regarded EPs on such labels as Elephant Moon, Infuse, Timeframe and Discobar. Here they return to the latter label with a fresh four-track missive. As the title suggests, opener "Space" tends towards to intergalactic, with futurist electronic beeps and weightless chords clustering around a rolling, sub-bass-heavy tech-house groove. "Virgin Virgin" is a deeper, looser and slightly warmer mid set box jam, while "Berlin 6" is a stripped-back, funk-fuelled stomper rich in glitchy stabs and mind-altering bass. The EP also includes a tasty bonus in the shape of Maayan Nidam's smooth, deep and bass-heavy remix of "Space".

  3. Hit It ((vinyl Only)) (7:09)
Review: Seb Zito is undoubtedly a producer on the rise. There was a bit of hype surrounding the first two releases on his Seven Dials imprint, so expect this return to FUSE London to simply fly off the shelves. It helps, of course, that the three included tracks are all heavy hitters. Arguably the best of the lot is A-side "Take No One", a slamming tech-house jack-track whose immense power is largely derived from a stabbing but driving analogue bassline. Over on the flipside, "So Good To Me" is impressively dreamy, spacey and warm with genuine rhythmic swing, while the more dub-centric "Hit It" is a bass-heavy box jam in which Zito gets busy with a drum machine over a speaker-bothering bassline.

Review: Innervisions bosses Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer return as Ame, and present their first full length entitled Dream House - described as a home listening styled journey. The German duo spent three years working on the LP and it features collaborations with legends of German electronic music such as Roedelius and Gudrun Gut, as well as Bolivian singer David Lemaitre and Jens Kuross - who was a member of Wiedemann's other venture The Howling, with Ry Cuming. Highlights include their dramatic collaboration with Matthew Herbert "The Line", the upbeat disco number "Blind Eye" (featuring Planningtorock), the chill balearica of "Positivland" and the evocative/melodic dreamscape of "No War".

Review: Max Cooper has long been known as a DJ and producer whose immense technical skills are matched by an open-minded desire to try different things. Bearing in this in mind, you'd expect his two-disc contribution to the long-running Balance series to be rather special. Happily, it is, with the Nottingham-raised artist doing his best to balance (sorry) his desire to do things differently with the need to entertain. That makes for a fluid, slowly shifting and hugely entertaining affair where drifting experimental ambience, dewy-eyed deep house, acid-fired electro, melodious techno and weighty rhythm tracks rub shoulders with hazy tech-house, loved-up leftfield pop, crunchy IDM and the kind of clanking, industrial-influenced compositions that defy easy categorization.

Review: Even by East End Dubs' prolific standards, Social is a seriously epic proposition. Set to showcase 30 tracks over three sizeable releases (this first instalment boasts five slabs of wax), its effectively one epic debut album split into parts. Naturally, it's not an album in a traditional sense, but rather a superb collection of dancefloor workouts in the producer's trademark style. Social Part 1, then, is like an East End Dubs starter pack: a fine collection of deep, dubby and sturdy cuts that brilliantly blend elements of deep house and tech-house. There are naturally plenty of darker, early morning moments, but pleasingly these come accompanied by a cluster of deeper and more melodious workouts.

Review: Tim Green has been promising to deliver a debut album for much of his decade-long career, so it's good to see that it has finally arrived. It comes on the back of strong dancefloor-friendly singles for Get Physical, Dirtybird and, of course, Cocoon. Intriguingly, Green produced Her Future Ghost as "a film soundtrack for a film that doesn't exist", and the album is shot through with cinematic tropes (think sweeping musical movements, atmospheric compositions, a loose narrative and exploration of a variety of moods). That's not to say that he's abandoned the dancefloor completely, of course; like recent single "Echo" (which is of course included here), the majority of the tracks pepper European techno and tech-house style grooves with rising and falling synthesizer melodies, emotion-rich chords and mood-altering electronics.

Review: Junes kicks off a new imprint, Dote, with a full-length exploration of the direct yet dreamlike sound he's made his own. With his usual flair for crisp grooves and ghostly palettes, A View reveals a broader range of nuanced vibes. Second Wind and Stop, Elate show a playful buoyancy, and a sense of discovery in tracks like Balancing Act and Two-Sided Embrace add a narrative pace to the collection. There's time for some of the creeping, spaced out atmospheres that hallmark some of Junes' previous best, but with tracks like Packaging, the realisation of this sound is richer than ever. There's a restless feel throughout the work, too - especially evident in the closer Spooked - and a feeling that we've been on a trip that doesn't end here.
