  4. Transit (5:45)
Review: Spanish producer Pohl is up next on Frankfurt label Aerobic, following up a terrific inaugural release by Chris Geschwindner. Although he's from Madrid, Pohl's no doubt got that 'Mainhattan' sound - in the vein of the locals such as Traffic, Hardworksoftdrink and Pager. Bouncy minimal funk with early Detroit/Sheffield influences as heard on alien jams like "Aillen" and then "Inert" on the B side featuring some rich Dopplereffekt style synths. Finally, he steps over to the darkside on the brooding bleep fest that is "Transit".

  7. St Ouen Connexion - Masile (7:16)
Review: Fresh from the success of two top notch EPs on iile, Leo Pol unveils his most ambitious release to date. All I Got In Me is something of a beast, with seven tracks stretched across two slabs of wax. It's a rather pleasingly varied affair, all told, with the experienced producer flitting between Detroit style techno futurism ("BH2"), warm, chunky and occasionally tough deep house ("All I Got In Me", "Live Concrete"), spacey beatbox electro ("Live Love") and the kind of tech-house cuts that look to both the Motor City and Chicago for inspiration. As a bonus, he's also included a collaborative cut under the St Ouen Connection moniker, the deep and hazy, techno-tempo positivity of "Masile".

  1. Horizons (7:11)

  3. Equanimity (6:53)
  4. Full Measure (6:34)
Review: Ray Mono first made his mark on the scene back in Leeds, where he promoted the successful Mono_Cult parties, before stepping out of the shadows with his own productions on Downhill, Draft and Oscillate. He's recently debuted on vinyl, with a release for Berlin's Pleasure Zone and now follows that up with this great one for What You Want. The German label being home to great releases by heavy hitters such as Costin Rp, Cntrl and Silat Beksi recently. Mono serves up some loopy and funked-up tech house that rolls deep, in the vein of homeboy Jack Wickham as heard on hot jams like "It's Never Over or "Equanimity". Full Measure" on the flip was the one which really did it for us though - a cyclical, swing-fuelled, futurist groove that could rock dancefloors from London all the way to Bucharest.

Phalanx (12" repress)
Cat: HFT 046. Rel: 04 Oct 18
  1. Phalanx (5:11)
  2. Warg (7:04)
Review: The master of dark journey tracks known as Recondite returns, this time for Scuba's esteemed Hotflush imprint. The sombre and doomy vibes of the title track are a bit more restrained than Lorenz Brunner's usual tracks but just as foreboding with those now trademark 'wonky' melodies which truly work a treat. "Warg" on the flip has a bit more momentum and definitely more elements incorporated into its sound. It's funky, in a brooding way of course; with another epic melody for some seriously dramatic dancefloor moments that he's known for.

Chains (12")
Cat: HOTC 120. Rel: 29 Aug 18
  1. Chains (6:39)
  2. Chains (Patrick Topping remix) (6:08)
Review: Hot Creations are back with veteran Italian producer Danny Minchella. The former Flashmob member now dons the Rogue D alias, which has thus fair served up two hot releases for Defected sublabel DFTD recently and "Chains" takes up from where those EPs have left off. A loose and funky affair with looped-up diva vocals in its original form, it's all about Newcastle hero Patrick Topping's deep down and dirty rendition on the flip - which goes for that second wave Chicago style of 'percolator jack' in the vein of legend Cajmere.

  1. Jogger (8:09)

  3. Jogger (Zendid remix) (9:14)
Review: Fresh from collaborating with Dubfluss on the Rowle-released Intergalactic EP, tech-house scene stalwart Rowlanz pops up on Joule. There's much to admire throughout, not least title track "Jogger". It sees the long-serving London producer add wonderfully spacey chords and supernova electronics to rolling tech-house beats and a suitably heavy synth bassline. Elsewhere, "LH9" is an ultra deep and hypnotic affair rich in dubby bass and dreamy electronics, while Zendid's fine flipside revision of "Jogger" strikes a perfect balance between flotation tank dreaminess and minimalist dancefloor haziness.

  1. Track 1 (11:39)
  2. Track 2 (1:38)
  3. Track 3 (8:26)
  4. Track 4 (4:50)
Review: Earlier this year, Samuel Andre Madsen impressed with his debut album under the S.A.M alias, Dream State of a Bellmaker. That album was marked out by the producer's willingness to flit between styles, applying his deep and quietly melodious approach to techno, house, ambient and electronica. This follow-up EP takes a similar approach. So while untitled opener "Track 1" is a hypnotic, dreamy and rolling deep house club workout, "Track 2" is a sublime chunk of texture-driven, deep space ambient. Similarly, on the reverse, the analogue Detroit techno-meets-Chicago jack of "Track 3" makes way for the intergalactic, dub-flecked IDM shuffle of "Track 4". Naturally, all four cuts hit to spot - though we'd expect little less from a man of Madsen's talents.

  1. Nilut (10:25)
  2. Tevoim (11:58)
Review: Romanian export Teo Bejdechi AKA Sepp has barely put a foot wrong since making his vinyl debut six years ago. Along the way, he's impressed via a series of atmospheric EPs for such labels as Uvar, Bleu Cel and, most recently, Pleasure Zone. Here he makes his first appearance on Rawax, serving up two cuts that notably veer away from his minimalist house and techno past. A-side "Nilut", for example, boasts an altogether chunkier and bolder groove than you'd perhaps expect, with his usual trippy effects and micro-edited samples being accompanied by shimmering synthesizer lead lines and starry electronics. B-side "Tevoim" is even more melodious and synthesizer-heavy, with Bejdechi wrapping blissful lead lines and jaunty electronic riffs around a rolling drum machine rhythm.

Silverlining Dubs (VIII) (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SVD 008. Rel: 17 Sep 18
  1. A Paradoxical Insistance (7:36)
  2. Turn, Turn, Turn (9:00)
Review: UK tech house veteran Silverlining is back with the latest installment in his Silverlining Dubs series, once again offering up dynamic excursions into the deeper end of the dance music spectrum. "A Paradoxical Insistance" shimmers and shakes with illustrious strokes of synth, marking out a moody headspace for the subliminal set to lose themselves in. "Turn, Turn. Turn" takes a spikier stance with its rasping percussive tones and peppy groove, but there's still plenty of space for dubbed out sound design to keep this jam firmly rooted in the grand tradition of proper tech house.

  4. Azureh (6:53)
Review: Member of power trio Lisiere Collectif, Andu Simion has been truly on a roll since a couple of terrific releases on Polen, Cakeman and Priku's Atipic imprint. All showcased his penchant for funky and functional grooves, which borrow respectfully from classic UK tech house while truly representing the vibrant Romanian scene's sound of now. Rolling, hypnotic and bass driven weapons on offer here, such as "Aquarium 00" or "Broken Arch" which are exactly the kind adrenalised sounds you can expect to hear at Club Guesthouse or Club Midi on a decent night. Plus not forgetting the killer A1 cut "Go To Be Real" where we hear Simion experiment effectively with breaks on this deep and trippy electro number.

STELA 008 (12")

  2. Chasindub - "Sphericall" (7:59)
  3. Intrepid Soul - "Entheogenic" (10:15)
  4. Iajov - "Static" (5:54)
Review: Stela Music is a record label founded by Romanian DJ and producer Tibi Fratila aka Intrepid Soul, serving as sonic bridge between the old and the new. The label's previous three editions have been courtesy of himself, but this new one is an exciting various artists EP. Featured on here is Andu Simion (member of power trio Lisiere Collectif) who has been on a roll of late with terrific releases on Atipic, Polen and Cakeman - his contribution "Rebel Wagon" is a lean, deep and functional affair suited to balmy nights at Sunwaves, while A2 is is Chasindub's "Sphericall" - a session of trance-inducing tunnel vision that's perfect for afterhours weirdness on the dancefloor. On the flip, we're treated to some even more tripped-out stuff. Label head honcho Fratila steps up to deliver the hypnotic alien jam "Entheogenic" while Iajov follows in the tradition of greats like Mike Parker: conjuring those ghosts out of the machines on the mental groove of "Static".

  1. Little Angel (7:26)
  2. Little Angel (Cristi Cons remix) (9:16)
Review: Fuse London head honcho Enzo Siragusa takes up the reins for the Infuse sublabel, with this new groovy thumper titled "Little Angel". It shows a much deeper and understated side to the producer than his usual tough rolling/swing-fuelled tech-house functionalism - traits he shares with close comrades such as Archie Hamilton, Rich NxT and Rossko. Man of the moment Cristi Cons - the Romanian causing a storm with his productions and remixes both solo and as part of SIT (with Vlad Caia) - steps up to deliver a great remix that's as lean, dreamy and hypnotic as you've come to expect from him. Another great rework alongside recent efforts for the likes of Azimute, Durrrred or Lumieux.

  4. Fairphone (Clock Poets remix) (6:36)
Review: Freerotation festival co-founder and improvised modular techno specialist Steevio returns to action, following up a recent EP on Wisdom Teeth with a four-track missive for Clock Poets. He begins in a typically clandestine and otherworldly mood, wrapping ricocheting analogue bleeps and discordant keys around a minimalist tech-jazz groove on "Fairphone", before diving deeper on the similarly minded, slack-tuned hypnotism of "Pollinator". Turn to the flipside and you'll first encounter "Lloergan", where creepy synthesizer motifs rise above bustling bass and a broken beat inspired minimal techno rhythm, before Clock Poets round things off with a distinctly fuzzy, low-slung and experimental techno take on EP opener "Fairphone".

Cat: PERLON 1172. Rel: 19 Sep 18
  1. Telephone At The Window (10:43)
  2. I Don't Know Enough Continued (9:25)
Review: Fumiya Tanaka's long-awaited return to Perlon after five years away is a two-part affair. This is the second 12" ("A/B" is available separately), and like its predecessor features a pair of high-grade workouts from one of the Japanese techno scene's greatest servants. Side A sports "Telephone at the Window", a typically trippy and clandestine affair that sees Tanaka pepper an undulating minimalist groove (think deep bass and crunchy machine snares) with post-apocalyptic vocal samples, spine-tingling electronics and manipulated modem noise. Over on the flipside, "I Don't Know Enough Continued" is a smoother and more shuffling late night workout, with only the producer's foreboding riffs and more mind-altering vocal samples punctuating the otherwise locked-in mood.

Cat: PERLON 117-1. Rel: 05 Sep 18
  1. On A Bass (8:45)
  2. Dreaming Perfect Zebras (10:06)
Review: Japanese techno titan Fumiya Tanaka is no stranger to Perlon, having first appeared on the lauded label back in 2012. Even so, Ab still marks the veteran producer's first appearance on the Berlin-based imprint for the best part of five years. Tanaka hits the mark straight away on A-side "On A Bass", a perfectly crafted, low-slung tech-house roller that pits the rhythmic swing associated with Ricardo Villalobos against a locked-in bassline, creepy deep space chords and all manner of twisted, cut-up vocal samples. In comparison flipside "Dreaming Perfect Zebras" feels rather classic and old school, with Tanaka drawing on both his love of early UK tech-house, Motor City influenced deep house and the crunchy tech-house percussion of contemporary imprints such as YYY.
