  1. By The Way (9:13)
Review: The QNQN crew tends not to say much in public, choosing instead to let DJs make up their own minds about their occasional EPs of "straightforward underground jams, ambiguous edits and unmistakably sexy grooves". Their latest missive only boasts one track, but it's a rather good one. "By The Way" sounds like a sneaky rework of a clandestine, grumpy and occasionally dark tune from someone like (but most likely not) Depeche Mode. It's vocal samples and chords are drowsy and atmospheric, but the accompanying beats and bassline are a far jauntier, floor-friendly proposition, sitting somewhere between choppy electro and hot-stepping UK garage. It's a curious combination but one that works exceedingly well.

  4. Trippy Bucket Hits (6:37)
Review: Following up his terrific long player for hometown heroes Pressure Traxx earlier this year, Dario Reimann returns with this fresh offering for fellow Frankfurters Osman. In the same vein as previous releases by the likes of locals Philip Boss and Harry Wills, you can be sure that Reimann will keep on with the new sound of the Rhein Main region on his No Future Slap EP which was very much inspired by the early '90s style of UK techno. From the woozy afterhours bleep-funk of "Destroyer", the boompty minimal house of the title track or the fiercely hypnotic tunnel vision of "Trippy Bucket Hits" - this is the best of retro perceived through a modern lens.

  4. Youandewan - "Pinger" (Goodies edit) (6:31)
Review: We'd heartily recommend this pleasingly varied, all-star affair from long-serving electronic imprint Cabinet. All four tracks are primed and ready for peak-time plays, with the wonderfully hypnotic, deep, dubby and bass-heavy bounce of Youandewan's "Pinger (Goodies Edit)" standing side by side with Noah Skelton's even deeper and groovier EP opener, "Vibrations", at the top of the pile. That said, many will gravitate towards the loved-up, piano-rich rush of Phazer's dream house-inspired "Racoon", while Berlin veteran Daniel Paul's "First Touch" is a wonderfully warm and melodious chunk of spacey deep house.

  1. Overcome (9:08)
  2. Lady Science (NYC Sunrise) (9:24)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: relik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Remastered by Rashad at D & M.

  2. Niko Maxen - "Silverlining" (7:15)
  3. Per Hammar - "Dynamic Ranger" (7:11)
  4. Ray Mono - "Unplugged" (7:34)
Review: There's much to admire on this second "chapter" of Talman's "Retro Future" EP series, which lands in stores two months after its sold-out predecessor. The title is apt, because much of the material effortlessly joins the dots between the spacey bounce of late '90s tech-house and the rolling, bass-heavy glitch-funk of today's leading tech productions. Chris Stussy steals the show with opener "Atlas", a cut full to bursting with intergalactic-electronics, ear-pleasing chords and glassy-eyed futurist house grooves, while Per Hammar's "Dynamic Ranger" cannily mixes a swirling atmosphere with druggy, mind-altering rhythms. Elsewhere, Ray Mono provides ear-pleasing peak-time hypnotism, while Niko Maxen makes the most of some stabbing analogue bass and chiming, delay-laden riffs.

Review: Mancunian tech house hero Darius Syrossian inaugurates his new Moxy Muzik imprint with "Dance Of The Shaman". The Sankeys resident delivers a surefire tech house banger here that's inspired by his extensive experience playing to the world's greatest dancefloors. Featured on the EP are several impressive remixes too. Our picks are Eastenderz/Social main man East End Dubs who delivers a tough, rolling and minimal rendition perfect for the Sunday after party, as well as legend of the American underground Doc Martin who brings the sound of Sublevel with his west coast rendition.

  1. Broodrooster (6:25)
  2. Murmur (6:33)
  3. Slapback (6:47)
  4. Fever 105 (6:59)
Review: Dutch producer, Toman makes his debut on fresh-faced Berlin label we_r_house this November with four minimal house cuts. Watergate resident and the creative mind behind the Beste Modus label, Cinthie decided to launch we_r_house with Berlin friends' and kicked off the label with material from herself and The Willers Brothers late last year and most recently a third release from Revivis. The man behind we_r_house04 and a new partner of the label, Toman shares a parallel vision focussing on minimalistic but complex house music. He's worked with the likes of Cyclic Records, Inermu and most recently UK label Pathway Traxx before linking up with we_r_house. 'Broodrooster' kicks off the EP, offering up a stripped-back, technical micro-house feel balancing exuberant bass stabs with tender flickers of melody. 'Fever' follows, an absorbing, lo-fi cut ayered with energetic percussion and bouncy undulating elements. Next, 'Murmur displays true minimalism, featuring a simple, deep, rolling bass-line whilst flickering drum patterns and tinges of background chimes tucked into the depths of the record.'Slapback' then provides wiggly jabs throughout alongside sleek flutters and an infectious subdued vocal sample to finish the pack.

  1. System Error (6:59)
  2. Straight Ahead Then Take The Next Wrong (6:59)
Review: 21 years have passed since Asad Rizvi and Nathan Coles first joined forces as Two Right Wrongans and released "The Not Quite Right EP", a brilliant three-track collection of pioneering tech-house treats. That 12" has long been tricky to find - unless, of course, you're willing to fork out rather a lot to purchase an original copy online - so it's great to see the EP's two standout tracks getting the reissue treatment. A-side "System Error" is particularly potent, with fizzing sci-fi electronics and gently pulsing chords rising above a techno-tempo, house style rhythm track. "Straight Ahead Then Take The Next Wrong" is more hypnotic in tone, sounding like a blueprint for today's glitchy, bass-heavy tech-house tracks.
