  1. Alex Arnout - "Hypersomnia"
  2. Tuccillo - "Another Day"
  3. Terry Francis - "Jua"
  4. Kilian Vega - "Ardour"
Review: Jack's House is back with another wedge of crucial cuts from a spread of big hitters, kicking off with Alex Arnout and the tightly wound roller "Hypersomnia." Tuccillo is in a heads down mood on "Another Day," letting the drums and the bassline do the brunt of the work. Terry Francis favours a heavy, smoky sound palette that has a bassline that will do some serious damage on a decent system - "Jua" is easily the strongest track on the record. Killan Vega closes the record with a smart deep house jam peppered with crafty sound design elements that lift the track beyond the average chord-led workout.

  1. B0n - "Bitch Face" (6:39)
  2. B0n - "What's That" (5:00)
  3. T3x3 - "Mother Fucking Shit" (5:27)
  4. T3x3 - "Baganoush" (5:23)
Review: Six months ago Laidlaw and Jamie Mannion launched a new offshoot of their beloved Beeyou imprint, Subee. The sub-label's second release showcases cuts from not one by two little-known producers. B0n is at the controls on side A, first delivering the colourful, bassline-driven house bounce of "Bitch Face", before reaching for the squelchy electronics, ear-catching synths and booming sub-bass on "What's That". Over on side B T3x3 delivers two funky fusions of UK garage, tech-house and deep house. "Mother F*cking Sh*t" sees the producer pepper a snappy two-step beat with deep analogue bass, dubbed out tech-house riffs and quirky electronics, while "Baganoush" sounds like an unlikely collaboration between Chez Damier, MJ Cole and Sheffield swingers Swag (look 'em up, kids).

  4. Tim Weeks - "Illuminate" (6:50)
Review: The Nubreed series has built amazing momentum over the past year and Global Underground are very proud to announce Denney as the newest DJ to turn in a future classic for the iconic series. The British producer has stated that this three month labour of love resulted in the most personal and emotive selection of music he has made in his career thus far. He thought his Essential Mix was tough going - but mixing Nubreed 12 he felt he reached another level. Features 29 tracks, including four exclusives from Denney and friends, with highlights such as the artist's own "Genena", the Andy Cato classic "7AM Drop", legend Danny Howell's massive "Isolar" and the progressive house classic "I Wish You Were Here" by John Creamer & Stephane K (feat Nkemdi - Omid 16B Revisit remix).

Review: Since 2006, Leipzig-based Bondage Music have had a consistent output of quality deep/tech house grooves by an all-star cast from Mihai Popoviciu, Markus Homm, to Pornbugs and NTFO. Once again showing off their sonic diversity on a various artists EP, "Bondage Games Part 5" features Deep Vibes main man Sascha Dive pursuing his newfound love of cavernous and glacial dub techno sounds on the stark "Dark Night", while label staple Frink goes deeper into the late night on the slinky and seductive bounce of "Vega". Similarly on the flip, Toman serves up some sensual mood music on his offering "Time To Time" and finally Philipp Gonzalez goes for a moody and atmospheric vibe on dancefloor drama "Open Hips".

808 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DBT 808. Rel: 14 Oct 19
  1. Tee's 8
  2. Three Thousand Men
  3. Tentation
Review: Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo are back together once again as Doublet, with both seasoned electronic champs having fun in the studio jamming out the kind of stripped back, heads down grooves you'd expect to hear them play out. "Tee's 8" is a cheeky A side jam with the kind of acid line that goes down easy and then works you from the inside out. "Three Thousand Men" has a slight dubby thread to it which sits comfortably amongst the sturdy groove of the drums, and then "Tentation" switches gears for a bright and melodic creation that skips around in funky syncopation without even needing to worry about a kick drum.

  1. Chotto Complications (6:50)
  2. Big Moon (7:49)
  3. Tiger Nuts (dub) (7:16)
Review: Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo first fired up their Doublet collaboration back in 2015, and after a brief hiatus they've reignited the project with another three delicate and dynamic excursions. "Chotto Complications" is a crafty construction that works around an electro framework, with intricate beat programming and nimble synth lines anchored by fulsome chord drops. "Big Moon" takes things into a more hypnotic headspace, using hushed tones to mark out the atmosphere around an undulating deep house groove. "Tiger Nuts (dub)" is the feistiest track on the record, using a punchy rhythm section and nagging sample daggers to create an insistent groove that will do the damage for the tech house cognoscenti.

Mitchell's Fold (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DEFP 018. Rel: 05 Mar 19
  1. Mitchell's Fold
  2. Fontaine Bleau
  3. Swelted
Review: REPRESS ALERT: London's Default Position label has thus far released music by Sebastian Mullaert, Terry Francis and many more. Now El Choop and Tim Gee step up to the plate with two seriously deep immersions. Bristol-based producer El Choop has previously popped up on a tape release with Heavenchord and also released a solo 12" last year on Etui, while this single marks Tim Gee's first outing to date. The two sound utterly at home in the dub house furrow they're digging into, leading in with the cavernous echo chamber meditations of "Mitchell's Fold" before slipping into the slightly more energised "Fontaine Bleau." "Swelted" graces the B side with the most upfront set of drums on the record, while maintaining the shimmering elegance of the dub chords that permeate the other two tracks.

Review: Next up on the ever-excellent Oscillat is "Spellbound" by the supremely talented Matthew Dekay. This moving deep house jam uses a few key elements to make a soul-stirring confection for truly spine-tingling moments in the middle of the dance. From the slithers of vocal to the insistent key riff that bounces throughout, this is an outstanding slice of contemporary house music loaded with feeling. Mandar then take the original and inject it with a feisty peak time energy shot through with a little trancey magic and an acidic undertone. It's not a raging beast but rather an energizing workout for the brain and the body - just what you need in the midst of a marathon.

Review: Banoffee Pies' popular "Black Label" series continues with another multi-artist missive packed to the rafters with tech-tinged fare rich in dubby sub-bass and crunchy two-step beats. As you'd expect for the almost-too-cool-for-school Bristol imprint, all four tracks are undeniably on trend. That's not a criticism though, because there's much to admire throughout. We're particularly enjoying the bleeping melodies, echoing, reggae-style chords, dreamy pads and tough two-step beats of Alex Falconer's "Hiero", though the body-popping acid electro brilliance of Baby Rollen's "Swimming With Dolphins" is not far behind. Tito Mazzetta and Isai's collaborative closing cut, a sublimely bass-heavy chunk of early morning dub techno/tech-house fusion, is also impressive.

  4. Shizka - "Chapter VIII" (4:16)
Review: Vox Populi's Field Works Vol.II sees the Berlin based label travelling to different parts of the world in order to collect sounds and archive some of the finest musical traditions. This record is the result of a trip to Japan led by Swiss anthropologist and label founder Fred Scharf. It was inspired by academic methods: particularly ethnomusicology and incorporates everything from field recordings, studio recordings, religious rituals, fighting championships and even wedding ceremonies. From the slo-mo acid of Japan Blues (Berceuse Heroique) seductive "Chapter V" to Frenchman Tim Karbon's exotic polythyrhms that hypnotise you on "Chapter VI" and Shizka (aka Inoue Shirabe) getting into some abstract groove theory on his splendid offering "Chapter VIII".

Review: Diminutive Frenchman Le Loup is a master minimalist who really digs deep here on his two offerings alongside Takashi Himeoka who takes acre of the flipside. "Pop That!!" is a driving late night beat with funky rubber bass, and "Axone" gets more weird and freaky for those late night dances. Himeoka's serves up some superbly clean tones on his wonky hi-tech house cut "Another Galaxy" then "Gravity Turn" closes out in more melancholic but just as deep fashion. These are four fantastic efforts that will soundtrack just about any moment in the night.

Review: EYA Records branch out with this crafty, wriggling slab of freaky techno diversions on new imprint Lonewolf. Meta4 twists all kinds of gnarly subversion out of "Four Body Centers," where the funk of foundational Detroit techno collides with the rampant machine messing of UK acid for stunning results. There's an eerie ghost train vibe hovering over Jorge Gamarra's "Pact", while "Langan" by Twophaseu drops a fresh UK twist on electro. Meta4 returns to bookend this ear-snagging EP with the equally catchy oddball trysts of "666blank", another devilishly deviant slice of underground party music for the ghoulish crew.

  8. Analog Inside - "Deep Time 808" (8:32)
Review: It would be fair to say that Claque Musique, a freshly minted outlet for tactile tech-house, skewed deep house and otherworldly techno, has hit the ground running. Their debut release is something of an epic, featuring eight tried-and-tested cuts stretched across two slabs of wax. There's plenty of subtle variety on show throughout - compare, for example, the hissing percussion, jaunty synth bass and trippy spoken word vocals of Carola Pisaturo's "Ganzirri" and the jazzy, dub-flecked deep house shuffle of "Cenere" by Calma - plus a swathe of notable highlights. This include the spacey machine funk of Analog Inside's wonderful "Deep Time '88" and the psychedelic acid madness of Iuly B's "Alien Acid", whose delay-laden percussion hits are particularly wonky.

Review: Serial collaborator Romain "Traumer" Reynaud is at it again, this time joining forces with fellow Parisian producer Gregory "Point G" Dorsa for a three-track workout on INFUSE. The experienced duo predictably hits its stride from the word go, serving up some swinging rhythms, hypnotic sub-bass and Salt & Pepa samples on peak-time tech-house box jam "Push It". There's a more percussive and slightly glitchy feel to the bongo-laden "Modulation Tropique", while banging B-side "Locoliente" feels like the kind of bouncy tech-house floorfiller that Sheffield sorts Swag used to do so well in their early 2000s pomp.

Review: Transmitting out of Birmingham and representing the cream of the sleek tech house crop, Adam Shelton's One Records continues to forge valuable connections with the global scene while staying true to the label's roots. Shaun Reeves and Tuccillo have been doing their thing for long enough to know how to throw down a surefooted deep groover, and that's just what you get with "Smile". Meanwhile The Mole does a sterling job of working some complex percussion into the bones of the track and creating a hypnotic, understated version that will appeal to the freakier end of the floor.

  1. Apollo Sun (7:21)
  2. Cosmic Breaks (7:49)
  3. Spray (6:32)
Review: The latest joint on Constant Black is from Subb-an and Thoma Bulwer, who work together to bring forth some seriously smart ruminations on minimal techno with an inventive modern edge. "Apollo Sun" holds court over the A side with an artful, modulating synth voice that sounds as though it could well have been cooked up through a tangled network of patch leads. On the B side, "Cosmic Breaks" has a strong set of drums that crunch in all the right places, and plenty of dreamy seasoning to make for a truly smart midtempo roller. "Spray" completes the set with the spiciest joint on the record, all tightly wound beats and nagging rhythmic wriggles both built for functionality but equally intriguing on the ear - a perfect DJ tool with enough sass to stand on its own.
